It's that time of year again!
The sun is getting hotter, the birds are singing earlier, and 2018 International Roadcheck is knocking on our doors in June. Did you know 17 trucks/buses are inspected every minute during International Roadcheck?
Are You Ready?
Be prepared for the Roadcheck from June 5 through 7. The focus for 2018 is Hours of Service Compliance. According to CVSA President, Capt. Christopher Turner of the Kansas Highway Patrol, "32% of drivers who were placed out of service during last year's three-day International Roadcheck were removed from our roadways due to violations related to hours-of-service regulations."
If you are pulled over, more than likely you'll receive a Level I Inspection.
4 Hours of Service Tips
Tip #1 30-Minute Breaks: Always punch in your change of duty status for break to capture an exact time. Don't rely on the system to mark it for you when you start up.
Tip #2 Sleeper Berth: If you enter that you are in the Sleeper Berth - you must be in the Sleeper Berth. If you are leaving for your 34, enter "Off Duty."
Tip #3 Updates & Changes: Stay current on the most recent HOS updates. If you are in doubt, give your safety guy a call. I hear they love to talk about DOT issues!
Tip #4 Historical Logs: Be cognizant of potential HOS violations from 7 days before Roadcheck. That's how far back can be investigated.
International Roadcheck may seem like a hassle, and it may not be your favorite few days of the year. But it's just that - one time per year. And by undergoing inspection, you're making the roads a safer place to be. So, if you don't hear it from the officer,
Thank you for keeping our roads safe.
