One of the top things people expect to do each day is to go home from work in the same condition as when they arrived. Most of the time, however, we don’t think about the risks we take each day on the job. For some, simply doing your job is a risk in itself.
Every day, drivers all across America climb into their trucks and hit the road. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) reports that 12,502 people were killed in crashes involving at least one large truck or bus from 2011 through 2013. Additionally, 287,000 people were injured. Facts like that make it easy to see that America’s highways are a risky place to work. This is why it is so important for drivers to take safety to work with them every day.
Operation Safe Driver is an event designed by the CVSA to increase safety awareness. Operation Safe Driver will occur during the week of October 18- 24th. During this week, law enforcement agencies across the country will engage in heightened traffic safety enforcement and education activities to focus on:
- Enforcement of traffic laws,
- Safety belt usage,
- Driver roadside inspections,
- and driver regulatory compliance.
Safety is important every day, but events like this can serve as a much-needed reminder for many. Officials will also offer educational and awareness safety programs throughout the week. We encourage everyone, whether you roll on 18 wheels or 4, to brush up on safety practices and requirements. You may learn something new to keep you safer every day.
